Mom Geri and her husband wanted to have a baby for a very long time. They were married in 2012 but were not in a rush to have children yet, thinking that it would happen when it was meant to. Fast forward several years later, and they still were not pregnant. In early 2021, Geri made an appointment at the Fertility Institute of Hawaii to consider their options in wanting to conceive. It was recommended that the couple start with three IUI’s before moving onto IVF, if needed. The first IUI resulted in a chemical pregnancy and the third one, the provider did not feel very confident about. However, two weeks later Geri got a positive home pregnancy test result! Up until 9 weeks of pregnancy, all was well. Geri then got sick with a viral infection, had bleeding from a subchorionic hemorrhage, and they were even told at their first formal ultrasound that the baby had a thick NT, possibly indicating a chromosomal abnormality or heart defect. Additional testing results about a week later calmed the couple’s fears and all was normal. Expected delivery date was to be August 7, 2022 but baby Owen certainly had other plans. He arrived the night of July 9, as happy and healthy as ever, even though he was early. He was a strong little one and although he was early, there was no NICU stay needed. This was great news to the parents as dad was recovering from major shoulder surgery just the day before his arrival.
“People who don’t know what it’s like to want a baby and not know whether it will ever happen don’t understand how sad, painful, lonely and scary it can be.”
“After waiting ten years, we finally had our miracle baby and he was absolutely perfect. During our entire pregnancy, I was constantly worried that something would go wrong. It wasn’t until he was finally here, and I saw him for the first time, that I could finally breathe again.”
